What doors does The Offing open for you?

The Offing has expanded the idea of a what a literary magazine can be. We have humor pieces, multimedia essays, and micros. There’s an avenue for every kind of creative exploration.

Is there a piece you’ve worked on or found at The Offing that’s been especially meaningful to you?

For Enumerate, Mimi Wong recently excerpted six poems about refugees, exile, and immigration. With the 24-hour news cycle, it’s unfortunately easy to separate the news from the people living it. By publishing these excerpts, we were able to take a position and make space for these voices to be heard.

What would you like to see us do with the donations we receive during our fundraiser?

Expand and publish more work, hopefully! Compensating writers is extremely important, and often in digital media, value is placed on simply having “exposure,” which doesn’t pay the bills.

Anything else? Tell us something about your experience with The Offing and why this work is meaningful to you.

The Offing is all about community and making each other feel welcomed, and nothing embodies that better than our Slack. It’s an uplifting and ultimately very fun space, gifs and all.
