The Transgender Law Center and GSA Network are showing the world that there is more to trans people than you see on the cover of Vanity Fair.
With the #transTRUTH campaign, transgender youth are given the opportunity to share their portraits on the TLC’s Instagram, where they pose with their name, gender identification, and preferred pronouns. The project aims to “build public understanding and empathy” of the transgender population through videos, but also connects gender nonconforming youth through the social campaign. In addition, the #transTRUTH also supplies media organizations with the best practices on reporting trans issues.
After launching last week, the selfie campaign gives trans youth the opportunity to write their own definitions of what it means to be transgender, putting power of defining their identity in their hands.
