Óscar Moisés Díaz

Óscar Moisés Díaz (b. 1993, El Salvador) is a poet, artist, film and art curator, and translator. They’ve exhibited in places such as the 10th Central American Biennial, the Santa Fe Art Institute, the International Film Festival in San Salvador, and several museums, including the Queens Museum and The Museum of Art, El Salvador. They’ve also had a solo at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Costa Rica. Their artwork has been written about by major historians of Contemporary Central American art, such as Dr. Kency Cornejo and Dr. Luisa Fuentes Guaza. They are part of the Tierra Narrative Collective and a co-founder and inaugural board member of the artist-run art space Espacio 42-B. They were the inaugural Poetry in Translation Editor for Fence alongside Maryam Ivette Parhizkar, as well as the 2020–2021 Inaugural Curatorial Fellow at the Poetry Project as a member of Tierra Narrative. Recently, they completed a writing residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts under the mentorship of Eileen Myles. They won the Art Trip Fellowship from The Y.ES Art Foundation in 2016 and their Art Grant in 2017. They have spoken about poetry as a guest at institutions such as The Cooper Union, The New School, and Pomona College. Recent poems have appeared in Copenhagen, Annulet, and The Brooklyn Rail. Their translations of Fabrizio Quemé appear in Noir Sauna and Mercury Firs, and more are forthcoming. Most recently, they translated the poetry of Roxana Méndez for the New England Review special folio: “The Sharpened Will of Us All”: Contemporary Salvadoran Writing in Translation, guest edited by Alexandra Lytton Regalado. Another recent folio, co-edited by Díaz and Parhizkar, is titled “I celebrate my permanence in the eye of the beast”: Six Women Writing from El Salvador.
