Anoushka Mirchandani

Anoushka Mirchandani (b.1988 Pune, India) creates paintings, film and installation examining her experience as an Indian, American, Immigrant, Woman and Other. Mirchandani’s work reveals the shape-shifting nature of identity, the ongoing act of place-making and the complexities of womanhood from an autobiographical perspective. Her practice contemplates the interweaving of ancestry, place, memory and the self as we bridge geographical boundaries and navigate diverse socio-political and cultural contexts. Her solo shows include Yossi Milo (NYC, 2024), Galerie Isa, Mumbai (2023) UTA Artist Space, L.A. (2023) Rhodes Contemporary Art, London (2021) and Glass Rice Gallery, San Francisco (2020). Mirchandani’s recent group shows and fairs include, India Art Fair, Galerie Isa (2024); Bode Gallery, Berlin, curated by Dexter Wimberly (2023); Marianne Boesky Gallery, NYC, curated by Amoako Boafo and Larry Ossei-Mensah (2022). Mirchandani has participated in global residencies including The Wassaic Project, Silver Arts Projects’ Digital Residency, KYTA and Aegean Idea Lab, and was awarded the San Francisco Artist Grant by the San Francisco Arts Commission in 2022. I felt like it was my duty to uncover these stories — in a way I had to move through them, making paintings inspired by them and I even made a short film about this familial excavation with a wonderful group of female collaborators.
