Yael van der Wouden

Yael van der Wouden is a queer Jewish writer situated in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She dances, eats, writes, cries. Her work has been published in places like The Sun Magazine, Split Lip Magazine, Barrelhouse Magazine, and others. She’s recently been nominated for Best Small Fictions, Best of the Net, and the Pushcart Prize. She’s also received a notable mention in Best American Essays 2018. Once in a while she cloaks herself in the voice of Sir David Attenborough for Longleaf Review’s advice column, "Dear David."

A few years after the war, a Jewish lady moved in between the Kistjes and the Gelders. None of us remember her very clearly, but the words used in conversation still itch.
